College Tip #704
Sometimes a parent needs to intervene to get shit done.
Here's an example. There's a student living in a residence hall and the washer and dryer are broken. The student goes to the RA, it's the student advocating here, goes to the RA and explains the situation. They say they'll get it fixed. Still doesn't get fixed.
They talk to a supervisor. Still doesn't get fixed. Three weeks later, the student texts the parent, I need to take an Uber to the laundromat because the washer and dryer are still broken. The mom loses it, calls the director of the residence halls, explains the situation. They're paying tens of thousands of dollars.
The student is advocating. Nothing is getting done. Three hours later the student reports there's a crew fixing the washer and dryer. They can now do their laundry. Thanks, Mom.
