Applications are submitted, now what?

Early college application deadlines can make this week feel incredibly long for students. With most seniors submitting their first applications by November 1st, it's a significant milestone in the college admissions journey. Below is some guidance for navigating this important step.

CELEBRATE!

Every senior applying to colleges is doing it for the first time, and the process can be stressful for both students and their families. If your student has submitted some applications, celebrate! Take a moment to breathe and enjoy a short break. It's important to celebrate, regardless of how easy or difficult the journey was.

REGROUP

Your student may not have been finished by the November 1st deadline. Worry not, there’s another on November 15th and more in December, January, and even later. Now is the perfect time for students to update their application tracker with the following information:

  • Review completed applications

  • Verify remaining deadlines

  • Update task list (essays, test scores, recommendation letters)

  • Check separate Honors College requirements

  • Reassess college choices as needed

ENCOURAGE

The first few college apps are always the toughest – but trust us, it gets easier! Once your student has those initial essays under their belt, the momentum really builds. The rest are mostly supplemental essays, and we've got some great resources that can help:

TIP OF THE WEEK

There are plenty of students who have not submitted any applications at this point, and that’s okay!  They haven’t missed the boat, and it is not too late to get started.
