Hanukkah Crafts and Snacks

Hannukah, Hanukkah, Hanukka, Channukah… however you want to spell it doesn’t matter, because you will still get to try out some of these awesome crafts and snacks to enjoy during the festival of lights! We have 5 fun crafts and snacks for you to try out this Hanukkah.

Star of David Pretzels

Difficulty Level: Easy
Supplies:
– Pretzel Sticks
– Melting Chocolate
– Sprinkles
Instructions: Melt the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl, in short increments to avoid burning. Once melted, dip pretzel sticks into chocolate, covering them completely. Arrange pretzel sticks on top of wax paper into a Star of David (a triangle with an upside down triangle on top of that) shape. Shake sprinkles on top and place into the fridge to set.

Dreidel Pouches

Difficulty Level: Medium
Supplies (makes 4 pouches):
– 1/4 yard of Loose Weave Linen
– 1 spool of thread for each color you would like to use
– 1 sewing needle
– 1 water-soluble fabric marker
– 4 dreidels
– 4 bags of Hanukkah Gelt
Instructions: Cut the linen into 4 pieces, about 10 inches wide by 6 inches tall. Draw a pattern you would like to sew onto the fabric using the fabric marker. Using the needle, stitch along the design you created with whichever colors you prefer to use. Press the sides and bottom of the linen 1/2 inch over on the back side of the linen. Iron down the top of the linen by 1/2 inch. Sew this fold down using the needle and thread. Braid 3 18-inch pieces of thread together, and using a blunt needle, pull the string through the top drawstring channel. Tie the loose ends of the braided threads. Fold and press the linen in half like a book, and sew the bottom and side edge of the bag shut. This should leave just one opening at the top. Fill – each bag with a dreidel and some gelt and you’re finished!

Marshmallow Dreidels

Difficulty Level: Medium
Supplies:
– 1 1/4 cups chocolate chips
– 1 tube writing icing, white
– 12 chocolate kisses
– 12 jumbo marshmallows
– 12 thin, 3-4 inch long pretzel sticks
Instructions: Line a baking sheet with waxed or parchment paper. Melt the chocolate chips or candy melts in a microwave safe bowl, stirring frequently to prevent burning. Put a pretzel stick through each marshmallow about 3/4 of the way into the marshmallow. Dip the bottom of a chocolate kiss into the melted chocolate and stick it to the bottom of the marshmallow. Place it on its side to rest, repeat with the remaining marshmallows. Place the resting dreidels in the fridge for 15-20 minutes to harden. Reheat the melting chocolate, and then using the pretzel stick as a handle, dip the marshmallows and kisses back into the chocolate. Place on the lined baking sheet again to rest. Once hardened, use the white drawing icing to draw the Hebrew letters on the dreidels. Let sit for about 30 minutes until serving.

Decked-Out Dreidels

Difficulty Level: Easy
Supplies:
– Plain Wooden Dreidels
– Craft Glue or Mod Podge
– Glitter in various colors
Instructions: Pour glitter into individual paper bowls. Paint the glue or mod podge onto the dreidels using a paint brush. Dip the dreidels into the glitter, being sure to cover all the glue. This can be done with the same or different colors. You can use a fine tip glue to draw on the gimel, hay, nun, or shin and cover with a different color of glitter (optional). You can place them into a clear vase or on a table as decoration.

Hannukah Puppy Chow
