For a multitude of reasons, campus security is important both to college parents and college students. Knowing this, College Parents of America previously put together an article on how to navigate media articles on campus security, and key tools and how to evaluate campus security data.
Recent articles like this one from the Huffington Post, this one from InformationWeek, and this one from the Sun Journal, remind parents and safety advocates that student safety (and proper Clery Act reporting) remain both major areas of concern and areas for significant improvement. Campus security, therefore, will be a continuing theme of College Parents of America’s work.
Today, we’re posting a brief Campus Security Checklist. These are some key questions to ask about campus security as your student transitions to school. While we suggest reading our full article on evaluating campus security or even using the Campus Sentinel App to read Clery Act data, these questions are the beginning of important conversations on staying safe on campus.
